Endeavouring for Excellence
Beginning from 2004, the Training Programmes at National Civil Defence College have been classified into three levels i.e. Development of Skills related to tasks required to be performed during emergencies, Building Knowledge for Managerial personnel and Awareness levels for Senior Managerial Cadres in order to build capacities for better co-ordination. The College, in addition to conducting training courses on Search and Rescue, Fire Fighting, Medical Operations and NBC also conducted for the first time the Amateur Radio Communication Course for Responders and Emergency Response to Rail Transport Accidents.
The Institute achieved a participation level of 98 percent over the scheduled vacancies on each Training Programme in this year. A National level seminar was also conducted on Training Strategies in Disaster Preparedness for Corporate Sector in collaboration with National Environmental Engineering Research Institute, Nagpur and Raymond Industries Ltd.
The Training at National Civil Defence College has received widespread recognition from various organizations that have shown keenness to send their participants for building their capabilities. The Institute conducted two special Training Programmes for Civil Defence Organisations of Delhi and Karnataka at their respective Institutes. It also conducted a special five days Search and Rescue Programme for the NCC officers at OTA (NCC) Nagpur and will be conducting a comprehensive Disaster Management Training Programme for teachers of 30 Schools operating with Department of Atomic Energy.
The training syllabus for all current programmes has been updated and improved as per international standards. In this regard two under mentioned courses have been upgraded in the year 2007.

In the forthcoming calendar year, two new courses have also been introduced as per the current requirements in disaster management.

- Collapsed Structure Search & Location Course
Under the up gradation project for the college, new infrastructure is being built at fast pace. NCDC :: Endeavouring for ExcellenceThe work for construction of new Academic Block is in progress whereas that of Hostel Building and Students Mess nearing completion. The work for construction of six Residential quarters and Open Air Class room will begin by Jan 2007. Improvement of the existing infrastructure with complete renovation of the office building has been carried out.
A proposal to acquire 30 acres of land has been accepted in principal by the local collectorate and will be utilized for furthering practical and simulation training facilities.
The current lecture halls have been improved by introduction of LCD display systems and white boards. Process for purchase of heavy and specialized rescue tools is being undertaken.
A new Urban Disaster Management Training Model installed.
Capacity building training for school teachers is being undertaken at the request of Nagpur Municipal Corporation under the Urban Earthquake Vulnerability Reduction Project (UNDP). Nearly 300 teachers will be trained by NCDC faculty in the month of November - December 2006.
